mission trip Saturday, Jun. 14, 2003 - 4:38 pm i just got back from a mission trip in bluffton, sc. it was really awesome. there were like 300 somethin kids there and we were divided into 51 teams. and each team would work on someone's house or would go to a day care and play with children. and the people in this area were poor. i'm talkin, dirt poor, had nothing. and my team worked at this guy's house named eddie. and he was like 48 and his house was in bad shape. and he couldn't do any of the work himself b/c he was blind in one eye, and he had diabetes, and i don't know he was just in bad health. and we painted the whole outside of his house, plus his railings, and we worked on his yard and we painted all of his pourch furniture. it was so awesome. like his house looked so much better. and at the beginning of the week we couldn't really tell if he liked it. b/c we kept being like how is this eddie? and he was just like it's good. and he wouldn't really say much. and then one day i was the only one in the front of his house and i was painting the railings and he came out and i was like "how's it look eddie, do you like it?" and then he just got this big smile on his face and he was like "it looks so great. it looks like a totally different place. i love it. i can't tell you how good it is to know that you kids did this for me. it's incredible. the Lord really does take care of people" and it was so awesome. like it brought tears to my eyes. and then on the last night at program all the home owners could come if they wanted to and he came all dressed up. it was so cute. i don't know. just all the stories and the difference we could tell we made was awesome. God really does work in amazing ways! and then friday we had a free day, and we went to kelly's (this girl in my youth group) beach house. and we hung out there all day. it was awesome. that house had an amazing view. you could be on one deck and look out onto the marsh, and then be on another deck and look out onto the ocean. and it was just so peaceful. i did a lot of thinking and then i talked to irene about so much. it did wonders for me. lol. i wish i could live on the beach. i love that place more than anything. and last night when i was talking to irene was even more awesome b/c there was this huge thunderstorm goin on and we were just sittin on this huge swing on one of the top decks that looked out over the ocean and we were just talking about everything and watching this huge thunderstorm. it was so cool. i dunno. this past week did amazing things for me as far as being so confused about everything, and for my faith and my relationships with people in my youth group. it was awesome!
